When everybody agrees something needs to happen — but nobody can get it moving.

Outside Leadership for Serious Fundraising Campaigns.

FundRaising Acumen helps organizations turn agreement into action. The work centers on campaign leadership, board and stakeholder alignment, facilitation, strategy, accountability, donor communication planning, database thinking, and execution support — especially when internal politics, competing priorities, or volunteer structures make a major campaign difficult to move forward.

Sometimes the most useful person in the room is the one who does not work inside the organization.
An outside campaign leader can focus on the objective, the process, and the next decision without carrying years of internal history into every meeting.
The Problem

Fundraising campaigns often stall before the fundraising even begins.

Boards, staff, volunteers, committees, donors, and leadership may all agree that a project matters while disagreeing about timing, priorities, messaging, responsibility, or how the campaign should actually be run.

That is where outside leadership can create leverage: clarify the objective, structure the process, assign responsibility, keep meetings productive, surface decisions that have been avoided, and build enough alignment for the campaign to move.

Core Work

Structure the campaign. Align the people. Keep it moving.

Campaign Readiness

Clarify the project, leadership commitment, internal capacity, audience, timeline, resources, and whether the organization is actually prepared to launch.

Board & Stakeholder Alignment

Help leaders, staff, volunteers, and key stakeholders get clear on priorities, roles, expectations, decision rights, and what success will require.

Campaign Architecture

Build the framework: goals, phases, messaging, audience strategy, leadership structure, communication flow, accountability, and campaign milestones.

Facilitation

Run productive meetings, reduce circular debate, surface unresolved issues, and help groups reach decisions without becoming another faction inside the organization.

Database & Donor Strategy

Use donor and supporter data more intelligently through segmentation, prioritization, communication planning, and better understanding of who the organization is actually reaching.

Execution Support

Keep the campaign from dying after the planning meeting through timelines, follow-up, accountability, communication support, and continued outside perspective.

Why an Outsider?

Independence can be a strategic advantage.

Internal leaders have history.

They may also have reporting relationships, friendships, old disagreements, departmental loyalties, volunteer politics, or legitimate concerns about pushing too hard.

An outside leader has a different job.

Ask the hard question. Keep the objective visible. Help the group decide. Put structure around the work. Hold the process accountable without becoming part of the internal political landscape.

FundRaising Acumen is not designed to replace the board, staff, volunteers, or donor relationships. The role is to help those people work together more effectively around a serious campaign.

Leadership

Management, facilitation, speaking & team development

Eric Steele's background includes decades of management and team leadership, nonprofit founding experience, public speaking, facilitation, and the practical work of getting groups of people aligned around an objective.

Marketing

Database, direct response & campaign thinking

His database and direct-marketing background adds another layer: segmentation, targeting, communications, direct mail, customer and donor data, and measurement rather than treating fundraising as only a series of meetings and asks.

Founder Background

Built organizations, led teams, and worked both sides of the campaign problem.

Eric Steele founded the Kansas Ultrarunners Society, has served in organizational leadership roles, earned the Distinguished Toastmaster designation, and was named Toastmaster of the Year for Kansas–Missouri in 1999.

His professional background also spans database administration, direct mail, direct-response marketing, operations, entrepreneurship, event development, speaking, and team leadership.

FundRaising Acumen brings those disciplines together around one practical question: What does this organization need to do next to get the campaign moving?

Related EJS Capability

Campaign leadership can connect to data and direct response.

Data Mining Doctor is a sister EJS Ventures property focused on database analysis, segmentation, mapping, clustering, and customer or supporter intelligence.

DirectMail.ink is a sister property focused on direct-mail strategy, campaign architecture, production planning, and execution.

These properties can support different parts of a larger campaign, but each remains a distinct brand with its own primary purpose.

Start a Conversation

If the campaign matters but the organization is stuck, start there.

You do not need a finished campaign plan before reaching out. The starting point can simply be the project, the funding need, the internal challenge, and the people who need to get aligned.
